Alto de la Ballena

With a viticulture tradition that dates back to the 19th century, today Uruguay is part of the group of countries
producing fine wines and its insertion in the main markets of high demand is constant and growing. It is
considered by many experts the wine boutique of South America.
Alto de la Ballena is located in the southeast region of Maldonado, very near the sea and Punta del Este, the most
important tourist center in the country.
The first vineyard plantation was made in the spring of 2001, continuing in the following years until reaching 8
hectares. The vineyards are composed of the varieties Merlot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Viognier.

Garzón WINERY (QUOTA COMPLETED)

Bodega Garzón has been chosen as New World Winery of the Year, by the Wine Star Awards 2018 organized by
Wine Enthusiast, the prestigious magazine specialized in the wine sector of the United States.
Bodega Garzón has a vineyard of more than one thousand plots and a 19,050 m² building, designed to be the first
sustainable winery outside North America. It complies with the rigorous requirements of the United States Green
Building Council (USGBC) which approved their LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental
Design) for the winery which is a certification system that comprises a set of regulations regarding the use of
strategies that pursue sustainability.

Traversa WINERY

Traversa is a family winery founded in 1956. Four generations join the Traversa Family with the lands where they
work and still live near the vine.
The winery is located in Montevideo and has 300 hectares of vineyards. The facilities and machinery are of great
technology, and the processes are certified by the ISO 9001-2008 quality management system. Most of the
energy used in the facilities is from a renewable source, generated by state-of-the-art solar panels installed in the
winery.
Our constant attitude toward continued growth, with passion and dedication, has led us to be the winery with the
greatest grinding nationwide, and our vineyards to be an example of Uruguayan viticulture.

José Ignacio WINERY

José Ignacio Winery was established in José Ignacio. In unique surroundings of slight slopes, 7 km from the
Atlantic coast and one of the most touristic destinations chosen by those visiting Uruguay, a unique design of
olive trees and vines can be observed. The single image of the José Ignacio country house already shows the
concern for design, the care for details and the respect for the environment which are the beginning of the
achievement of a final product of Premium quality.
The wine project occupies an area of 8 hectares. The planted varieties are Albariño, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir,
Merlot and Tannat.
The production in 2018 was 40,000 liters of wine and for 2021 it is anticipated to reach over the 90,000 liters.

SACRAMONTE WINERY

Located at a driving distance of 45 minutes from Punta del Este, Sacromonte is a brand new project that merges
high-end vineyards with a sophisticated landscape hotel.
Sacromonte is destined to be a top Uruguayan boutique winery producing limited quantities of premium wines.
Only 12 acres (5 hectares) under vine with a high-end clonal selection of Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Franc,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan and Syrah.
A unique feature of Sacromonte’s vineyards is the terroir, as a result of its location in the wild Sierras of
Maldonado, with steep hillsides facing north and its rocky soils, rich in mica schist and granite.

SITE VISITS - Afternoon

Bouza WINERY

BOUZA is a family enterprise, led by the Bouza family, together with the oenologist, Dr. Eduardo Boido. Since the
beginning of the project, high quality production has been the main objective. To achieve this goal, we work taking
care of every detail, on a small scale. The vineyards are in Montevideo, where the winery is located, in Canelones
and Maldonado. In a total of 35 hectares, we produce about 150,000 bottles a year. The varieties we produce are
Albariño, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tempranillo and Tannat.
We concentrate our efforts on the work in the vineyard, because with only an excellent quality grape we can
obtain a good wine. Then in the winery we make a minimal intervention, being very loyal to the result of each
terroir and the characteristics of each vintage so that this can be appreciated in our wines.

Juanicó WINERY

Before becoming the property of the Deicas family, the Juanico winery land had many other owners. Notably
among them, the Jesuits and Don Francisco Juanico. In 1979, Juan Carlos Decias took charge and founded the
Juanico winery, today one of the main wineries of our country. When Fernando Deicas takes control of the winery,
new technologies are incorporated, and an important industrial investment is made. In 1994, the Don Pascual
wines were born in tribute to Don Pascual de Harriague, French Basque who introduced the Tannat grapevine in
Uruguay. In only five years it conquered the local market and today it is the Uruguayan best-selling wine in the
world. It is in 2010 that Familia Deicas decides to separate the production of certain special wines, so the Deicas
Premium Familia winery was born. These Family wines are produced on a small scale, carefully taking care of the
entire process. At present, it is the third generation that has contributed with a new vision and a more modern and
« international approach, with the conviction of making wines that genuinely represent each place ».

VARELA ZARRANZ

The Varela Zarranz family entered the world of wine in 1933, acquiring a decade later, the vineyard manor built in
1888 by Diego Pons who, together with Harriague, Vidiella, Varzi and Portal is one of the Uruguayan wine making
pioneers.
This fact makes the Varela Zarranz family the heiress and bearer of a vigorous history. The incorporation of a third
generation in 1986 brought about a renovation plan which included new vineyards and the modernization, with
sate of the art technology, of the production plant.
This third generation presently leads the enterprise having inherited from their elders, a life philosophy of
constant improvement and excellence achievement based on training and renovation.
